General Information:

Purpose

The Wilbraham United Church Nursery School has been serving the Wilbraham community since 1951.  Our purpose is to offer children a creative environment in which to grow as individuals and as members of a group.  We offer experiences that help children in their social, emotional, physical and intellectual development.  Our aim is to help each child develop a strong sense of self-worth.  We hope that each child will also learn to respect individual differences among his/her peers.  We welcome all children and do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, cultural heritage, political beliefs, marital status, or disability

Learning Experiences

Our dedicated teachers are qualified to work with 3, 4, and 5 year olds.  They provide the children with experiences to encourage learning in all developmental areas.  Opportunities available include individual, small group and whole class activities.

Facilities & Play Opportunities

We have spacious, well-equipped rooms where the children may select their own activities from various learning centers.  Centers include blocks, dramatic play, sand and water play, a science area, books, creative art, and manipulatives (puzzles, peg boards and reading readiness games).  A large, outdoor playground area allows for running, climbing, swinging, and sand play.  An indoor gross motor playroom is available on days when bad weather prevents outdoor play.  Several local field trips are planned throughout the school year.  These trips provide a variety of enrichment experiences.  A nutritious snack is served daily.  The children are often involved in its preparation and serving.

Parent Involvement

Parent participation is encouraged.  We welcome the sharing of information such as cultural heritage, careers, and hobbies.  We also use parent volunteers as field trip chaperones.

In-House Registration:

January 22-25, 2008: for those children attending our program.
January 28-February 1, 2008: for church members, and siblings of children currently or previously enrolled in the program.

Public Registration
All others interested should complete a Public Lottery Application, available November 1, 2007 through January 31, 2008.  After in-house registration, remaining slots will be filled by random drawing from these lottery applications on February 4, 2008.  If there are students not placed in a class after the lottery, they may be placed on a waiting list, and you would be notified as soon as a slot becomes available. The $25.00 registration fee would be due as soon as you are notified of an opening. Please be in touch if you are interested in our program and the above dates have passed, as registration status can sometimes change and new openings may be available.

Orientation:

Orientation for parents and children is held just prior to the opening day of school.  This one-hour program introduces children to the classroom experience and eases the transition to their new school environment.  Parent handbooks are distributed at this time.
